Requiem
of a Kitty Cat
Today
Zack lost his cat Ronnie to a virus. We had taken Ronnie to the vet earlier
this week where we were given the sad news. A strong round of antibiotics &
a lot of prayers were the only chance he had. In the end, even though he was
quite young, he just couldn’t fight it off.
Ronnie
came to us a lot sooner than my wife or I knew about. We had been chastising
Zack for a few weeks about dumping cat food out his back window. Finally, we
started noticing the stray cat, and put two and two together. We already had
one cat and were not looking for another, but Zack won us over, and, well,
Ronnie did too.
We have
had several cats over the years, & just like people, they all have their
own personalities. Ronnie was very different than the others. He was what I
called a character. He could act up just to get your attention. One of his
favorite moves was to walk up to you, plop down and roll over on his back,
demanding his belly to be scratched.
Zack
named Ronnie after a special needs boy he knew a few years back. This boy
passed away at a very young age. Zack was heartbroken when this happened. Now,
Ronnie the Cat has passed away at a very young age as well (we think he was
around three years old). While Ronnie was everyone’s cat, he truly was Zack’s.
When Ronnie would sneak out, at nighttime we would holler for him to no avail.
So, we would send Zack to the back door and have him yell – Ronnie would
usually come to him within a minute.
It’s
funny how something can come into your life for such a short period of time,
& when they are gone leave such a huge hole in your heart. Of course Zack
is very upset about the loss of Ronnie, but I have to admit……………..I probably
cried more than Zack did.

R.I.P my friend – you will
be sorely missed.
God Bless,
Chris
